dr hab. Katarzyna Szopik-Depczyńska, prof. US has become, for the second time, a laureate of the West Pomeranian Nobel Prize in economic sciences – for her scientific achievements in 2025. The West Pomeranian Nobel Prizes, awarded by the Chapter of the West Pomeranian Club of Science Leaders, are among the most prestigious scientific awards in the region.

In the evaluation of the quality of scientific activity for 2022–2025, the discipline of management and quality sciences, developed at the Institute of Management, was again awarded scientific category A. This confirms the high level of research conducted at the Institute and is the basis for its full rights to confer academic degrees.

The Director of the Institute, prof. dr hab. inż. Kesra Nermend, received the title of “Honorary Member of the University” – the highest distinction awarded by the Haxhi Zeka University in Pejë (Kosovo) – for many years of cooperation, support for the institutional development of the university, building international partnerships and the development of research.

Mgr Sebastian Matysik, an assistant at the Department of Enterprise Management and a doctoral candidate at the Doctoral School of the University of Szczecin, won the competition for the Best Young Scientist of the University of Szczecin in the group of economic and legal sciences.

A team from the Department of Transport Management – dr Zuzanna Kłos-Adamkiewicz (project leader), prof. dr Tomasz Kwarciński, prof. US, dr Agnieszka Gozdek and dr Sylwia Kowalska – is carrying out in 2025–2027 the SMART-AGE project (Sustainable Mobility and Accessibility for Resilient Transport in Aging Urban Environments) under the DUT Horizon Europe programme, together with the University of Antwerp, AP University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Politecnico di Milano and Odisee Hogeschool.

We are pleased to announce that the laureates include representatives of our University: dr Agnieszka Matuszewska from the Institute of History and dr hab. inż. Paweł Ziemba, prof. US, from the Institute of Management.
dr hab. inż. Paweł Ziemba, prof. US representing the Department of Decision Support Methods and Cognitive Neuroscience, Institute of Management, became a laureate in the field of economic sciences.
He received the distinction for the results of his research on the development and use of multi-criteria methods in sustainable development problems.

By decision of the Minister of Science, Dariusz Wieczorek, dr hab. Marzena Frankowska, prof. US, of the Institute of Management was appointed to the Advisory Team for projects submitted under the “Science for Society” and “Science for Society II” programmes.

We are pleased to announce that on 17 September 2024, during the 22nd European Transport Congress held in Warsaw, dr Sylwia Kowalska, assistant professor at the Institute of Management of the University of Szczecin, was honoured by the international jury of the European Friedrich-List-Prize 2024 with an award for her doctoral thesis entitled “Road charging as a tool for modal shift in freight transport”, written under the supervision of prof. dr hab. Elżbieta Załoga and dr inż. Arkadiusz Drewnowski.
This prestigious distinction is awarded by the European Platform of Transport Sciences (EPTS Foundation e.V.), a European organisation promoting research in the field of transport. The award recognises researchers whose doctoral theses make a significant contribution to the development of transport research.

According to the latest ranking of the world’s most influential scientists, prepared as every year by Stanford University and the scientific publisher Elsevier, university professors employed at the Institute of Management were once again included on the list of the most cited scientists in the world. The ranking comprises 2 categories. The first covers the assessment of scientists’ entire careers up to the end of 2023, and the second concerns their scientific achievements in 2023.

We are pleased to announce that the Project Student Research Club has completed its participation in the 2nd edition of the Academic Management Championships with great success!
From 15 April to 20 May, the team of Adrianna Rodak, Filip Nocoń and Dominik Nocoń managed a travel company and took 3rd place in their group.
For 5 weeks, using a simulation game, the team took on the role of the owners of the “ProjectDream” travel agency. During the simulation, the club members made decisions on demand for the domestic and foreign trips and youth camps offered by the agency, cooperated with suppliers, used marketing promotion tools and managed human resources (including recruitment, staff training and various motivational measures).
The team developed its managerial skills as well as its skills in using Excel and analysing microeconomic, macroeconomic and accounting data (level of demand, competitors’ prices, the company’s balance sheet). In addition, this year’s participation in the competition made it possible to build know-how for future club members who wish to represent our Institute in the next edition of the Academic Management Championships.

We are pleased to announce the success of members of the “Project” Project Management Student Research Club, which operates at the Department of Organisation and Management of the Institute of Management. The students represented the University of Szczecin in the national stage of the PM Championship, coordinated in Poland by IPMA Young Crew Poland. The team of Katarzyna Dorociak, Krzysztof Kosmala, Anna Marszałek and Gabriela Mikiciuk, under the academic supervision of dr Joanna Rzempała, took a very high third place!

dr hab. Katarzyna Gadomska-Lila, prof. US, Deputy Director of the Institute, and prof. dr hab. Edyta Rudawska, Head of the Department of Marketing, were elected to the Committee on Organisational and Management Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

dr Zuzanna Kłos-Adamkiewicz and dr inż. Mariusz Sowa received the West Pomeranian Wings of Education award for an outstanding teacher and mentor of young people, granted by the Association of Transport Engineers and Technicians of the Republic of Poland, Szczecin Branch.

In the University of Szczecin competitions, the title of Scientist of the Year was awarded to dr hab. Wojciech Drożdż, prof. US, and the title of Best Young Scientist went to mgr Aleksandra Bączkiewicz. The only distinction in the young scientists category was awarded to dr Elżbieta Szaruga – also from the Institute of Management.

The Logistics programme run by the Department of Logistics (bachelor’s and engineering degrees) took 5th place among all Polish universities in the Perspektywy 2023 ranking of degree programmes – the highest in central and northern Poland.

By Decision No. 21/506/2022-1, the Minister of Education and Science awarded the discipline of management and quality sciences – scientific category A in the evaluation for 2017–2021. The result confirms the high level of research conducted at the Institute of Management.

During the Polish Science Gala inaugurating the World Copernican Congress, dr hab. inż. Paweł Ziemba from the Department of Decision Support Methods and Cognitive Neuroscience received the Award of the Minister of Education and Science for a series of 10 articles from 2020–2021 on the development and applications of multi-criteria methods in sustainability problems.

The winners of the West Pomeranian Nobel Prizes 2021 science competition were announced during a ceremonial gala. Among the laureates is a representative of the Institute of Management – dr hab. Wojciech Drożdż, prof. US (economic sciences), who received the award for research on new aspects of energy storage management, electromobility, the use of hydrogen for mobility and the decarbonisation of the economy based on renewable energy sources.

Prof. dr hab. Edyta Rudawska was invited by Philip Kotler – the foremost authority in marketing – as a keynote speaker at the third edition of the World Marketing Summit 2022 „Marketing Changes to Meet Sustainability Goals”.
