Establishment of the Institute

The Institute of Management was established by the Rector of the University of Szczecin under Order No. 75/2019 of 18 June 2019. The Institute began its activity on 1 October 2019. The Institute is based at 8 Cukrowa Street in Szczecin.

History

The origins of the Institute are linked to the development of higher education in Western Pomerania. The beginnings of the academic achievements of the Institute’s staff date back to 1946, when a branch of the Poznań Academy of Commerce was established in Szczecin. In 1950 the branch was nationalised and renamed the Higher School of Economics, which in 1955, as the Faculty of Transport Engineering and Economics, became part of the Szczecin University of Technology. In 1985, as a result of the merger of units of Szczecin’s universities, the Faculty of Transport Engineering and Economics of the Szczecin University of Technology became part of the Faculty of Economics of the newly established University of Szczecin. In 1990 the Institute of Transport Economics gained academic independence and was separated from the Faculty of Economics as the Faculty of Transport and Communications. In 1997 the Faculty of Economics was renamed the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management, and from 1999 the Faculty of Transport and Communications operated as the Faculty of Management and Economics of Services. For the following twenty years the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management at 64 Mickiewicza Street and the Faculty of Management and Economics of Services at 8 Cukrowa Street were two separate organisational units of the University of Szczecin, which, with the higher education reform of 2019, were transformed and incorporated into the new research and teaching units of the University.
